Railways in Kanpur began when the first passenger train in North India ran between Allahabad and Kanpur (180 km) on 3 March 1859. Kanpur Junction (today people called it Kanpur Purana) opened in 1859 and was closed after the opening of Kanpur Central, the present station in 1928.〔http://www.irfca.org/faq/faq-hist.html〕 Track leading from Govindpuri to Kanpur Central via Juhi Yard is a spur route of the original route Govindpuri - Juhi Yard - Chandari. This is because, after the construction of Kanpur Central in 1928, it also linked to Lucknow in a more direct way. Kanpur Central is, strictly speaking, not on the Delhi - Mughalsarai main line. Track connects Kanpur Central to Chandari on the Delhi - Mughalsarai main line, and is considered a cause of delays. All Delhi - Mughalsarai goods trains bypass Kanpur Central along the line that connects Govindpuri with Chandari. ==Timeline== * In early 1860s, Kanpur-Etawah section opened.〔 * In 1866, Indian Branch Rly.
